Cash Assistance (Temporary Assistance)
Cash Assistance gives money to help pay for basic needs like rent, utilities, and other costs. In New York there are two main programs: Family Assistance for families with children, and Safety Net Assistance for adults without children.
Who this program is for
Families with low income who have children, pregnant people, and adults with low or no income. Some immigrants can qualify.
What the rules say about eligibility
Eligibility depends on your income, resources, household, and work activity. Family Assistance has a federal 60-month time limit. After that, Safety Net Assistance may continue. Most adults who can work must take part in work activities. Income and resource limits change and should be checked on the official website.

Emergency information
If you need help paying for an emergency like an eviction, utility shut-off, or no food, ask about Emergency Assistance or a One Shot Deal. You do not have to be on Cash Assistance to apply.
